La Gattabuia was born during a dinner with four long-time friends. Passionate about good food and good drink, the four decide to share their passion and knowledge to offer local patrons and tourists a gastronomic offer based on Lucanian and national gastronomic excellence. And June 4, 2012 inaugurate La Gattabuia, a few steps from the Piazza del Sedile of Matera, once used as a market square and home to warehouses, taverns and shops. In 1550 the square was arranged to house the governor's offices, the city's prisons, and the municipal palace, known as the Sedile.

The menu is determined by the seasonality of the products and the chef's proposals always include a reinterpretation of the typicality of the traditional cuisine of Basilicata. The kitchen is accompanied by a well-stocked wine cellar, the result of a careful selection that offers guests about 80 labels among the best wines in Basilicata and on the National scene. All the rooms offer an elegant and exclusive atmosphere, but at the same time informal, perfectly in line with the innovative and imaginative gastronomic proposal. The furnishings, unique in their kind, were made exclusively for La Gattabuia by artisans from Matera, masters in wood and stone processing.
